Mt. Olive News November 16, 2008 Blessed How blessed is the man who delights in the Law of the LORD. Psalm 1:2 How blessed is he whose guilt is forgiven. Psalm 32:1 The Jewish reader of the book of Psalms will find the key to the whole book in Psalm 1 – obedience is blessed. The Christian reader will find the key to the whole book of Psalms in Psalm 32. The forgiven sinner is the one who is truly blessed. Both are in the Bible; both are true. Everybody knows – with the Apostle Paul – what you sow you also reap. Delighting in the Law has its benefits. But notice the word “delight.” We are not talking about mechanical observation of the law; we are speaking of a heart relationship. Relationship – that is key. That is crucial. There is a scene in the movie The Breakup with Jennifer Anniston and Vince Vaughn. She says to him, I want you to want to do the dishes. He says, Who wants to do dishes? If you know the answer to that you know the key to understanding the book of Psalms.
Take Note CONGREGATIONAL MEETING AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS NEXT SUNDAY BETWEEN SERVICES.

A Lutheran is: · A Christian who believes the Bible is God’s inspired Word and the message of salvation in Jesus Christ is the point of the Bible. · A sinner who knows that, of myself, my whole life and being is self-directed, self-controlled, self-motivated, self-confident, and headed for destruction. · A saint who believes that, in Jesus Christ, I am totally forgiven, completely accepted, loved with an unlimited love, and destined for heaven. · A child of God who believes that new birth into God’s family is not the result of my own reason or strength, but of the Holy Spirit who works faith in me through the message of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. · A follower of Jesus whose goal is to love others as He has loved us. · A witness who gives an example of faith, hope and love in the world so others might know Jesus and believe in Him. W Mission Statement WThe Members of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church will witness to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ in the Forest Grove area and throughout the world by means of Worship – Education – Service so that people may believe that Jesus is God the SOURCE of real LIFE and the POWER of true LOVE |
