RANDY AND DEB SMITH

RANDY AND DEB SMITH

Dean

Randy and Deb live almost within walking distance of Mt. Olive on the quiet street of Hawthorne.  They have lived in Oregon since 1992.

Randy was born in Seattle, WA.  His Father was a government worker however, which required the family to move frequently.  Finally in Phoenix, Randy’s Mother said, “Enough”.  So that is where the family settled.

Deb was born in Pittsburg, PA.  Her family also settled in Phoenix, AZ.  Randy and Deb met when they both worked at American Express there.

They were married in 1975 in Phoenix, AZ at the Methodist Church, the Church they attended.  As more and more Californians moved to Arizona, Smiths and most of their extended families, decided to move to Oregon.

Smiths have two grown children:

1.      Zane Smith is twenty-five years old and married.  He is studying for his Master’s Degree in East Portland to become a minister.

2.      Dean Smith is eighteen years old and a Senior in High School.  He attends the Youth Group and Sunday School at UCC in Forest Grove.

Smiths visited several Methodist and other churches, all of them going in many directions, some quite liberal.  They never felt really comfortable at any of them.  Their son Zane continued to urge them to come to our Lutheran Mt. Olive Church and here, hopefully, they have found their true home Church.

Randy works for the Water Treatment Plant in Forest Grove above Forest Gale Heights.

Deb is at OHSU and works at OGI, Oregon Graduate Institute, as a computer desk top support (when it breaks, she fixes it).

Son Dean has some interesting and strenuous hobbies, as only the young with energy can.  He loves drumming.  He plays in bands, not professionally, only for pleasure and joy of it.  Dean, perhaps wisely, feels if he had to do it as work, he would lose something very special that drumming means to him.

Dean and his Father’s hobby together is Remote Control cars.

Beyond that Dean has an eighteen year old’s love of real cars and playing computer games.  Snowboarding is another hobby if Oregon’s snowfall will cooperate.

Randy’s hobby is golf and his shared hobby, RC cars with his son.  Randy is a wannabee skier and this is he and Deb’s new venture.

Deb’s hobbies have included oil paintings, decoupage, and piano when time permits.  Her paintings are beautiful.  How, given time, gardening is her passion.
