PHIPPS Family

(prepared by Annie Jarrell)

JASON AND JONNA PHIPPS,

 and

CODY

Forest Grove, OR 97116

Jason and Jonna came to Forest Grove in September, 2004, moving into their new house and Jason starting work almost the same day.  They like the small town feel, close to a big city but not too close.

Phipps’ came to our area from Sacramento to support the family and be near Jonna’s sister who lives in the Mt. Tabor area and who has suffered a stroke.  They rented an apartment in West Slope and began searching for a place they wanted to settle.  They are not urban or suburban dwellers, so the small college town of Forest Grove was just right.  Everything fell into place when they came here, Jason’s job, their house, great neighbors, church, and schools.

Jason was born in Ventura, CA north of Los Angeles.  He was raised there and went to high school there.  With his teaching degree, he got his first teaching position in North Sacramento.

Jonna was born in North Bend, Oregon, next to Coos Bay.  She went to Oregon State.  In the process of getting her teacher’s certification, she went to Ellensburg, Tacoma, and Seattle, WA, then to N. Sacramento for the first year of teaching.

And this is where Jason and Jonna met.

Jonna teaches kindergarten in North Plains and Jason teaches sixth grade at Jackson school in Hillsboro.  Jason and Jonna have taught school eight years.  This is their first in Oregon.  They consider teaching as a wonderful opportunity for young people raising a family because of the summer and holiday vacations, and the hours that coincide with their children’s hours.

Their son Cody, is four years old, born December 21, 2000.  The new brother will be born June 28, 2005.  Cody loves his nursery school at the “Kids of the Kingdom” school associated with the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Beaverton.

Jonna’s hobbies are cooking and reading and she is an ardent “Beavers” fan.

Jason has coached in the past, and he loves all sports and played football in college.  Both he and Jonna love fishing, clamming, and crabbing.  They love to travel and have done a lot in the past.

Jason was raised a Lutheran, Jonna a Presbyterian

They visited several churches in the area and chose Mt. Olive.  We are so happy they did.
