Lori, Ben, and Kristiann Lopez

Lori, Ben, and Kristiann Lopez

LORI LOPEZ

Forest Grove, OR

Three Sundays a month, the Lopez family joins the Praise Team to sing and play for us at the early service.  They contribute so much to our worship.  Now Ben Lopez will be gone to graduate school and will only be with us occasionally.  We will miss him.

Lori and her family live in Forest Grove in a lovely home on Willamina over by the high school.  She was born and raised in this town and attended Mt. Olive most of her life, with the exception of a short time at St. Peters and a little stint in Aloha.  Lori’s parents are Earl and Irene Meyer.

Since 1991 Lori has worked for Rogers Instuments in Hillsboro.  Mt. Olive’s organ and piano were bought there.  They build classic organs and pianos.

Her job is a Manufacturing Systems Analyst involving a big computer system.  Lori is an expert in the manufacturing area and sets up the computer to get the right information in and out as it is needed.

She is also in charge of the Masters’ Scheduling Program.  She does the schedules at the top level, to decide the levels of console, etc., production per day.

The first and most pressing priorities of the day are the care of her family, home, and work, but there is still a little time for hobbies.  Her first love is music, of course, but there is also time for bike riding and kayaking with Ben and Kristiann.  They stay mostly in the area of Haag Lake and the Nehalem River.

KRISTIANN LOPEZ

Kristiann was born in Forest Grove, has lived in the same house all of her life and has been a member at Mt. Olive this whole time, for which our congregation is very grateful.  It is a joy to see her singing on Sunday morning at our contemporary service.

She is a sophomore now who does exceptionally well in school.  She is not ready to make decisions about her future yet, but she loves and does well at arts and crafts.

Kristiann is on the volley ball team at school and she helps Mother with the big job of caring for the home and yard.

She also bike rides and kayaks with Ben and Lori.

Life is pretty good for her at this point, pretty stress and worry free.

BEN LOPEZ

Ben was born and raised in Forest Grove and has always attended Mt. Olive Church.  He plays his guitar and sings for our early contemporary service.  It has been a blessing to our congregation to have the Praise Team lead our singing.  From past experience we, no doubt would fall flat without their help.

Until now Ben has earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and a minor in math.  To help pay his way through school he worked at Alterra Retirement Home in Forest Grove as a server in the dining room.  This past year, he advanced to a cook, which he finds much more interesting and he reports there have been no complaints.

This fall, Ben will be going to the University of Oregon in Eugene for five or six years to earn his PHD (Doctorate) in Physics.  During this time he will also be working as a teaching assistant helping with lab classes and grading homework.  His goal is to become a professor or work in research in industry.

With all of this, he still finds time to share with Lori and Kristiann hobbies of biking and kayaking.  Recently, he has taken up a new hobby with a friend, surfing.  He practices at Canon Beach on the coast.

A new fun hobby is recording his own CD’s.  This involves using a computer and recording over and over on the same track.  He may place the drums on the track first, then go over the top of that with his own guitar and finally singing, using music and lyrics he has written.

And finally, he finds time to work out at the gym.

We are hoping he will be at Church at least once a month to play for us.
