JANICE MONTES & TROY

JANICE MONTES, TROY

of

Forest Grove, OR

Jan is Hazel Davis’s daughter and was born in Hillsboro, moved to California when she was three in 1954 and returned to Forest Grove in 1964 with her family when Father died.  She went to Forest Grove High School and was confirmed at Mt. Olive Church and has attended here most of her life.  She was confirmed with Parnell Jarrell, Marva Weise, and Stan Gerdes.

When she married she moved again to California, then back to Forest Grove in 1973.  She moved to 21st and Elm next door to her Mother and then to her present home in 1977.  She has three children, Jim, Troy, and Dawn.  Her husband was Catholic and the children were baptized Catholic.  The children enjoy both their Anglo and Mexican heritage which they feel enhances their lives.

Jan is a probation officer and she finds this fulfilling.  Jan’s family also work in the Washington County Court house probation offices.  Her work load is 400 probationers which is heavy but they are English speaking DUIL which makes the work load manageable.

Troy’s work load is 70, which may seem light, but they are Spanish speaking and represent all types of offenders.  Although Troy holds several degrees, he would like to go back to school and study philosophy to get his Doctorate and teach.  Grandad Joe Davis wrote a book, G.I. Joe, and Troy edited and recently got the book published.

Jan’s hobbies are swimming, square dancing, “bird watching”, and especially spending time with her four granddaughters.

Troy enjoys reading, world traveling, and writing poetry.
