JOE & HEIDI KLINGSPORN

DAN HIDY

CONRAD & SALLY HIDY

DEAN & JUDY ROBERTS

BECKY McCLENNY

JOE & HEIDI KLINGSPORN

ASHLEY & CAMERON

Hillsboro, OR 97124

Joe and Heidi were both born in this area and have lived here all their lives.  As a matter of fact Joe and his son, Cameron, were both born at Tuality Hospital (of course in a 24-year span).

Joe has worked for Panzer Nursery for almost a year; the same nursery where his Father-in-Law, Dean Roberts works.  This huge area of green houses is located on the west side of Beaverton.  They raise exclusively potted floral azaleas.  Joe works in shipping with plans to advance into sales.

Heidi works part-time from ten to two as an Administrative Assistant for the Hinds Instruments Company on the east side of Hillsboro, almost to 185th St. Her routine is to take Ashley to school, Cameron to Grandma Roberts for baby-sitting, and then to work.  Then she reverses the process in the afternoon.  This enables Heidi to be almost an at-home Mom.

Joe and Heidi’s goal is to buy a new home.

Ashley is six years old and a first grader at Forest Hills School.  Klingsporns believe this is a fine school and they feel very fortunate to be able to send Ashley here.  Ashley will soon take part in her first big spring recital in ballet at the N.W. Conservatory of Dance.  Cameron is a happy two-year old.

Joe and Dean Roberts bowl on the Panzers Nursery team.  This team has attended state and national tournaments.  Joe hopes when he has time and space, to restore a pick-up using the mechanic skills he has.  He also visits his Dad who lives just across the street.

Heidi and her girl friend faithfully work out at the gym three times a week.  This is her relaxation and hobby.

Their joint hobbies are the beach, camping, volleyball and fun with their extended family.

Originally the family attended Zion Lutheran Church but many years ago they followed their parents to Mt. Olive Church.

Joe and Heidi have been married for three years in June and Joe has been confirmed in the Lutheran Church.

DAN HIDY

Forest Grove, OR 97116

Dan works for Rick’s Tire Factory and has for years.  He will soon move to Oregon City but will commute.

Dan has two boys, Dan Junior, who will graduate this year and attend Western Oregon University in the fall, and David who is sixteen years old.

Dan loves Oregon and does not necessarily like to travel.  Everything he likes is right here.  He hunts, fishes, plays golf, and is learning to garden.  He is a drag car enthusiast as a specialist.

Even though he is moving, Mt. Olive is his home Church.

CONRAD & SALLY HIDY

Forest Grove, OR 97116

After he got out of the service, Hidys' came to Oregon to visit Sally’s sister, Irene Hensley in Forest Grove.  Conrad was offered a job for Charlie Sellers doing farm work and repairing equipment, etc.  They attended Mt. Olive Church with Pastor Wendling.

As a young man, Conrad was in the Army Air Corp as a gunnery instructor training bomber crews.  He found himself being sent through the Panama Canal, to Australia, India, Burma, and China.  He left home in April 1944, and Sally bore his first child in August of that year.

Hidys moved back to California to be near her family.  They moved to Corona Delmar, California on the Pacific Coast Highway and operated a Sporting Goods’ Store.  In 1969, Conrad was offered a manager’s position for General Tires at 10th and West Burnside in Portland, so they moved back to Oregon.  They moved to Strassel Road out near the Vernonia junction and Conrad commuted to Portland.  They had left California because the overcrowding and traffic had become too much.  They feel they had enjoyed the best ten years there before that happened.

Conrad owned and operated the Forest Grove Tire Center.  Eventually, he sold that and bought the service station near the Vernonia junction where he sold gas, repairs, and tires.  This was near Strassel Road.  He retired and they moved to Forest Grove.

Sally was a beauty operator until her first child was born.  Then she was a homemaker and did the bookkeeping for Conrad for his various businesses.

Hidys have six children:

  1. Divid Hidy, whose wife is a nurse and they have two children and live in Arkansas.
  2. Judy Roberts
  3. Cindy Hanson, who has three children and lives in Redlands, Calif.
  4. Becky McClenny, who has two children and three grandchildren.
  5. Dan Hidy, who has two children.
  6. Stephen Hidy, who is single and who is a diesel mechanic.  He is the Service Manager at Detroit Diesel in Stephens, Washington.

Conrad’s hobby is to play golf and to do yard work.  Sally works puzzles and studies her Bible.  They travel to California and Arkansas to visit family.

They met on a blind date.  Conrad was in the service and Sally was a beauty operator.  The friend’s boyfriend didn’t have a car and Conrad did, so they arranged this plan, so they wo9uld have transportation.

DEAN & JUDY ROBERTS

HEATHER

Cornelius, OR 97113

Roberts live now in Cornelius with their dog Rusty, a dachshund.

They were married in 1973 at Mt. Olive by Pastor Carow,, who gave Dean instruction and baptized him.  Rhoda Spidal played the organ at the wedding.  Then they moved to Beaverton and went to Pilgrim Church and Dean worked in Tigard.  They moved to Central Oregon for two years from 1979 until 1981 and then transferred to Mt. Olive with her parents and this has been their church since.

Dean was born and raised in Portland.  He now works in Beaverton for the wholesale nursery, Panzer Nursery.  He is a Facilities Manager in charge of construction repair, heating, etc.  He has five employees under him.  This nursery has ninety acres under roof, 1.4 million square feet under cover, and employs 75-80 people, one of whom is Joe Klingsporn, Dean’s son-in-law.  He has been at the nursery fifteen years.  Mother’s Day is the biggest season of the year and they raise exclusively potted Azaleas, no other products, which is unusual.  Woodburn Nursery is their biggest competitor but also their partner under the Cascade Floral Nursery in Southern, Calif.

Judy was born in Oregon, but moved to California before she was a year old.  She did not come back to Oregon until 1969 when she was 22 years old.  Judy was fortunate to be a stay-at-home Mother.  She did child care in her home occasionally and after the children were grown she did Greeting Card Merchandising.  Now she enjoys caring for grandchildren.

Heather was born in Emanuel Hospital in Portland and has always lived in Oregon.  Heather works for the Community Action Organization, a before and after school day care program in the local schools.  She is now an assistant teacher worker, but soon will be moving over to Echo Shaw School for a permanent teaching position.  She started as a volunteer and it worked into a good job.  She has about thirty kids from 5-12 years old.

Dean’s hobbies include bowling with his son-in-law, Joe for the Panzer Nursery Bowling team.  He also plays golf and loves to barbecue.  A past hobby used to be car racing, a hobby Judy didn’t think necessary after they were married.

Judy likes knitting and gardening and canning.  They both travel some to family reunions in Nebraska every five years.

Heather has done bowling and likes sports such as baseball and basketball, but now prefers computer games.

Roberts met through a mutual friend at a bowling alley.

BECKY McCLENNY

Cornelius, OR 97113

Douglas and Becky own the McClenn’s Refrigeration business in Cornelius.

Becky graduated from Concordia College and was a pre-school teacher until her first child was born.  Becky and Doug had two children, Emily Long, who is a Mom with three children and Nathan McClenny who works as security at Intel.  Becky home-schooled her children, which was somewhat of a novelty at that time, and required quite a bit of red tape to set up a program.

Becky was born in Santa Ana, Calif. and went to Trinity Lutheran School, a parochial grade school.  Sally’s Father was a principal there for a time.  The family moved to Oregon and she graduated from Forest Grove High School.  Then she went to Concordia in Portland.  For a time, she managed the pre-school Head Start program after graduation.

Becky likes to take road trips, but her favorite hobby is playing with her three grandchildren.

Becky spends lots of her time working with the Good Shepard kids.  She teaches weekly Bible classes at five different houses for them and drives some of the residents to church once a month.  She also works for Crosswalk, which meets at our church.  They come to study the Bible, sing and do craft activities.
