Walter Hergert

Forest grove, Oregon

Walt lives with his son and daughter in law, Phil and Lois in their lovely home situated on a knoll on the north side of gales creek highway looking south over the fertile gales creek valley.

He and his wife Geraldine, Who died in July of 1995, have the three children:

Philip Hergert of forest grove

Raymond Hergert of forest grove

Darlene Harris of Hillsboro

Geraldine loved to cook, quilt, do puzzles and especially do garage sales. She was a happy, contented lady.

Walt was born in Idaho. He has five brothers and one sister and is the only sibling born out of the state of Oregon. He was born 1923 or 1924. The family originally settled in Mountain Dale and were farmers. Geraldine was from mountain dale too.

When world war II started but, Walt went to the army and served in the Pacific in the Philippines.  When he came home he met and married Geraldine. I believe Walt’s originally family had moved to Hillsboro by this time.  Geraldine and Walt settled in north plains but moved later to Hillsboro. They belong to Zion Lutheran church originally at Schefflin, and moved with the congregation to their church in Hillsboro. Walt transferred to Mt. olive to join ray and the late nineties.

During his working years old was a car mechanic, drove a logging truck, worked in the woods, and a variety of other jobs.

His favorite hobbies are fishing and hunting. He hunted often in western and eastern Oregon. He was fished extensively on the Wilson, the Trask, and the Nehalem catching and smoking his good salmon.

The Hergert family get together often specially at holidays.  Even though it is a little difficult for Walt without his driver’s license he has his children near him and his wiry. little dog “Jack Russell” and his church.  Ray is very faithful bringing his dad to church.
