PHIL AND MARYL CAROW

BRANDON, TREVOR, ASTON

Phil was born in Japan in 1957.  Dad, Pastor Albert Carow, was a missionary.  Pastor Carow administered a church with a school connected and family lived there until Phil was about six years old.  They came back to the states when he was seven to Forest Grove where his Father was called to Mt. Olive Church about 1964.

Phil went to the Forest Grove schools, graduated and went on to Oregon State.  He spent time in the restaurant business and then worked in Financial Planning for seven years.

Maryl was born in Portland on September 7, 1965 and was raised in Hillsboro.  She went to Brooks College, California and worked in Retail Management.  She has just gotten her BS in Social Science and is now working on her Master’s Degree in Special Education.  She is teaching Special Education kids at Echo Shaw besides working at “Phil’s Subs.”

Phil and Maryl met at a Health Club where Phil taught aerobics and where Maryl was working.  They didn’t like each other.  Maryl thought Phil was arrogant; Phil thought Maryl was stand-offish.  Finally, Phil called Maryl and asked her out.  The rest is history.

They married in 1987 and moved to Forest Gale Heights in Forest Grove and have lived there every since.  The grandparents, Pastor and Madeline Carow live there also only eight blocks away and the grandkids like that.

Phil and Maryl started “Phil’s Subs” in 1989.  Maryl had never worked in foods before and was a little nervous.  They discovered that Phil knew how to do the food and Maryl, having worked in retail management, knew how to dress the food.

Carow’s are a “traditional” family involved in church, school, and home life.  They try to take a good family vacation every two years.  Disneyland may be their next one.

Why do they go to Mt. Olive Church?  They like the fellowship here and the traditional church.  Trevor likes the Sunday School program, Aston loves to learn about God, and Brandon liked confirmation.

CHILDREN

ASTON is nine years old and was born in Forest Grove.  She goes to Forest Hills Lutheran School.  Her hobbies are playing soccer, skiing, Hip-Hop Jazz dancing (which involves a lot of moving), and the piano.  She is a Girl Scout and rides her bike every day.

TREVOR is eleven years old and was born in Forest Grove.  He goes to Tom McCall School.  His hobbies are basketball, baseball, football, snowboarding, skateboarding, and the piano.  Interestingly, he loves to cook and his family says he is a very, very good cook.  He would like to cook like his Dad.

BRANDON is fifteen years old and born in Forest Grove, also.  He is a freshman at High School.  His favorite hobby is baseball, followed by football and he made the team at school.  He is also a snowboarder and a good dancer.  Of course, at fifteen, hanging out with his friends is fun; learning to drive is important, and scary, Mom says.  Of course he loves food.  Trevor wants to cook; Brandon loves to eat.

FAMILY HOBBIES:  Phil and the boys play golf.  The men in the family snowboard, the ladies ski.  A fun thing they enjoy is to laugh at the crazy things that Dad did as a typical Pastor’s kid, like trying to set the church and rental house on fire.

Finally there is Tiger, the cat.  The kids all help feed, water and take care of Tiger.
