Mark was born at the
old St. Vincents Hospital in Portland August 9, 1956 and eventually
settled in Gaston. He is the #1 foreman and works nights for a
paper mill in Newberg. |
Lisa was born in
Tuscon, Arizona April 29, 1960. Her family moved to California and that
is where she grew up. She worked at Intel in California. When they
closed, she transferred to Intel in Oregon and settled in Gaston also.
Lisa, at one time, drove school bus for the Gaston Schools. Mark and
Lisa met through his brother and mutual friends and fell in love.
They had not
attended Church for a time, but now felt the need to find a home
congregation. After visiting at least five different churches, they
came to Mt. Olive. The warm, pleasant, intimate chapel and smaller
congregation spoke to them. Mark was especially drawn to Pastor Bolken,
whose attitude was not commercial, but personal and his message was
Biblical, clear and relative.
They were married
here at Mt. Olive Church by Pastor Bolken March 18, 2001 and have joined
our congregation.
Their hobbies tend
to be family activities. Lisa and Lindsey love to ride horses and enter
competitive competition. They are able to keep their horses in a
neighbors’ pasture next to their home. They motorcycle, love camping,
anything outdoors. Mark, with his buddy Chelsea, love fishing. Music
is another family hobby. At this time Mark and Chelsea are the most
active in music. Mark plays the “Hammer Dulcimer” and the guitar, and
he and Chelsea both sing.
Both girls were born
in Livermore, California and are excellent students. Lindsey is
eighteen years old, born May 5, 1987, and wants to be a commercial
pilot. She visited Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona, but
even with a scholarship, thought the tuition was high. For now Lindsey
will go to Portland Community College and try to take some courses at
Hillsboro Aviation towards her goal.
Lindsey is a busy,
competitive girl. Besides working two jobs, she loves volleyball and
basketball and was Homecoming Queen in school this year.
She rides for fun
and loves gaming horses. She broke a state record in the figure 8’s.
Chelsea is sixteen
years old, born April 12, 1989, and is legally blind, but not totally.
Fortunately her condition has stabilized. She attends Gaston High
School and Mainstreams Plus, learning Braille, etc. In the summer, she
attends Oregon School for the Blind in Salem for four weeks, where she
does a summer work program. She learns mobility and to use a cane at
night. She worked for GI Joes and other stores and was awarded the
“Employee of the Year.”
Chelsea hopes to
attend Ashmead College in Portland and be a massage therapist.
This competitive gal
sings for different events, the National Anthem for school programs, for
parades, games, the Special Kids Rodeo, and equestrian meets, and at our
Church if you noticed.
This has not been a
good year for Boldens. Lisa’s Mother, Marty Hayden was diagnosed with
lung cancer and now Lisa has had a disk removal on August 9, 2005. Both
ladies were in the hospital undergoing treatment at 9 a.m., so they were
not able to be there for each other.
We pray for this
family that the rest of the year is fruitful.
